Inspirational Movies about Recovery

Addiction is a popular topic in music and films because many artists, and people all over the world, suffer from addiction. The problem is that most of these movies tend to glorify drug and alcohol abuse or paint a dismal picture. However, there are a few movies that take a good look at addiction, its motivations, and the possibility of a better future through recovery. These movies can be inspiring to those working toward sobriety and interesting to anyone affected by addiction.

28 Days

28 Days stars Sandra Bullock as a woman that has a blossoming career, but is forced to enter rehab under court orders. Through the film she has trouble even admitting a problem and acts out as a response. However, she ultimately faces her own problems and from there healing can begin.

The Basketball Diaries

The movie follows a teenager that goes from being a successful basketball player to a homeless heroin addict. Things go from bad to worse, as they tend to do in these situations, but there is a light at the end of tunnel and redemption in the end.

Clean and Sober

Michael Keaton stars in Clean and Sober as a high functioning cocaine and alcohol addict whose life spirals out of control when he wakes up after a bender with an overdosed woman and a message from his boss that money is missing and he is the suspect.
